So this year the holidays have been a little less than exciting. Normally there are parties and events that we go to, and it's so much fun, and we act like we're young and carefree... not this year. There are parties alright, but now we look for plenty of seating, good food, and for me... and endless supply of non-alcoholic, decaffeinated beverages. oh, and a bathroom on the same floor is handy too. Unfortunately, the majority of the events we have attended this year have not been anything to write home about, nor have they met the criteria that we look for (see above). But that's the theme of this year's holiday season... see...we haven't even decorated for Christmas. There is a wreath on the door, a wreath inside (thank you to perkins+will for that), and our new fake tree. Thank goodness it's pre-lit, because that's its only decoration this year. So sad. So we can't really say anything about the lack of holiday cheer or anything like that... it's not even present in our house yet anyway.
Everything is still a mess... Mike does his best to encourage clutter-free surfaces as much as possible, but the lateral file in the living room (and all the rest of the office) counteracts most of our efforts. Lesson learned: don't put new carpet in unless you have time to take off to put your house back together.
Had such high hopes for this year... get a tree, decorate inside and out, do it up big! oh well... for sure next year, right?!
I've also experienced a lack of cheer from my fellow coworkers, people on the street, etc. Nobody is feeling it this year. Maybe it's the 75 degree day we had today, or maybe it's the floundering economy, or maybe it's that nobody has time to care anymore because we're all trying to do our jobs and be a good person too. Either way, I'm going to do my best to go out and get gifts tonight, fighting the crowds, and bringing frustration with the human race upon myself. But that's what this holiday is about, right????
Now off my soapbox for a little bit of optimism...
At least i'm not nauseous this holiday. And Avery is doing well. And we've all got our health. And we all have homes to live in and cars to drive and are doing pretty well. So in all reality, every day should be an appreciation of the life we live.
I'll try it out for a week and let you know how it goes...
